SoCal Fire Season Preparations

Fire Season
Living in Southern California, residents are very aware of the impact the Santa Ana winds can have during brush fire season. Increased wind speeds can dramatically change the outcome of a fire.
Key Tips
SERVPRO of Glendora & San Dimas would like to remind residents of the San Gabriel Valley and surrounding areas tips to keep your home safe during fire season.
- Keep trees pruned. Wildfire can spread to treetops. Check with your local fire department to determine the appropriate amount of trees that should be trimmed.
- Always clear debris from around your home. Leaves and dead foliage should always be removed from gutters, porches, decks, and other outside areas. This also applies to dry, overgrown grass. These items make perfect fuel for a traveling fire.
- Fix or replace broken roof tiles and cover exterior attic vents. This helps prevent ember penetration.
- Keep front, back, and side yard lawns properly hydrated.
Documents, Pets, Furniture!
Have an emergency plan set in place for your home? Important documents should be readily available in case of evacuation. If you are a pet owner, have emergency supplies set and ready to go. Any outdoor furniture or wooden gardening boxes should be moved away from your home, as far as possible. Close all doors and windows to prevent embers from entering. Make sure garden hoses are all connected to a water source – they can be useful to firefighters.
