Plumbing failures are very common but in some cases can be easily checked for symptoms before they do:
Refrigerator Ice Maker – Look for water at the valve behind the refrigerator or someplace along the plastic line to the back of the freezer
Water line to the back of the toilet tank - Where the water line attaches to the valve at the wall or at the bottom of the toilet tank
Water Heater tank – Signs of water dripping around the base of the water heater or water dripping from connections at the top of the heater
Leaking water lines under Sinks – Line connections at the valves on the wall and connections at your sink facet and dish washer
Water lines to Washing Machine – The hot and cold water lines connected to the wall and the back of your washing machine
Running your finger around the connections and checking for moisture where water lines connect to the appliance and at the valves on the wall will help determine if there is minor leaking that could eventually become a flood.
The inspection should include looking for wet flooring, walls, and cabinets as signs there is water leaking; musty smells in closed spaces like under sinks where water has leaked and mold has begun to grow; visual evidence there is mold growing where building materials have become wet from a leaking appliance.
