Earthquake Preparedness For Your Business

Here in the State of California, it is always possible that an earthquake can occur when you least expect it. Making sure you and your business are prepared in the case of an earthquake is the best way to ensure safety when an earthquake does occur. Here are some tips for preparedness planning for your business.
First, practice and make sure your office knows the plan in the case of an earthquake. According to ready.gov, drop, cover, and hold on is the best method to refer to when you realize an earthquake is occurring.
Second, make sure that heavy items are secured in your workspace. Bookcases, filing cabinets, refrigerators, and desks should be stable and secure in the case shaking occurs. Additionally, make sure that anything hanging on the walls such as televisions, pictures, and other objects are secured as well. Heavy and breakable objects are best stored on low shelves.
Third, make a supply kit and emergency communications plan for your office. The supply kit should have enough to last for at least three days and include items such as flashlights, fire extinguishers, whistles, batteries, charging devices for critical equipment as well as any personal items that may be needed for specific needs of employees. Your communication plan should include information about what to do in the case of an emergency, emergency contact information, and if necessary, where to meet in case of separation
